Hollyoaks actress, Jennifer Metcalfe, who recently celebrated 12 years as the show’s Mercedes McQueen, gained a degree in health and fitness before making her mark in Soapland. Now she’s adding Tough Mudder to her list of achievements. We spoke to Jen about getting involved, her training regime prior to the event and how she tackled Kiss of Mud.
Q&A with Hollyoaks Star Jennifer Metcalfe
So Jen, you’re taking on a Tough Mudder. Tell us what made you want to get involved.
I mean….exercise and challenges with alcohol at the end, what a combination! The opportunity was too good to miss!
What exercise do you like and how often do you do it?
I do a high intensity HIIT class once a week, along with a barre class, a baby yoga session and a stepper/ weights workout at the gym. I also try to exercise at home while Daye is napping. I like Pilates and yoga, but it’s soul destroying if the baby wakes up just as I’m getting into it.
What’s your fitness philosophy?
Choose something you love, something that doesn’t feel a chore. For me this changes a lot, but usually I flit between hot yoga, yoga, Pilates, body pump, barre and the gym. Don’t force yourself to like something your best mate is doing. Exercise is very personal and all bodies are different.
Which obstacle are you most looking forward to?
It has to be Kiss of Mud, love the name and can’t wait to get properly muddy.
What are you most looking forward to about taking part in Tough Mudder?
Enjoying a finisher drink once I’ve crossed the line and celebrate making it though Kiss of Mud.
